Bethel – Hurgin Municipal Center
Welcome to BETHEL…
Bethel is a town in Fairfield County. It was first settled around 1700. The name “Bethel” means “house of El (God)”. The town has a total area of 16.9 square miles. The population is approximately 18,500.
The Bethel Public school system currently operates two elementary schools, Frank A. Betty School and Anna H. Rockwell School serving grades K-3; R.M.T. Johnson School serving grades 4-5; Bethel Middle School serving grades 6-8 and Bethel High School serving grades 9-12. In addition Bethel is home of the private Christian School, St. Mary School.
Bethel is approximately 60 miles from New York City and has a train station on the Danbury Branch of the Metro-North’s New Haven Line.
